Assess text and logos at their actual production size

Letter and sign cutting produces text, logos or wayfinding elements as components from sheet materials. Shop signs, interior lettering, decorative logos and display pieces may have different material and mounting requirements. At Modoko CNC Kesim Cutting Centre, we assess the design with its actual dimensions and intended use. When sending a file to our Istanbul Dudullu workshop, specify total lettering size, material, thickness and number of sets to define the quote scope clearly.

A screenshot of a logo does not always define the actual outlines and dimensions of the lettering. Where possible, supply the vector file and a visual reference together. If brand proportions must be preserved, specify a reference dimension such as total width or height. Define each size separately when ordering the same logo in several sizes. Details that disappear at a small scale may look different on a large sign. Reviewing the design at its actual production size makes these decisions clearer.

Material selection and intended use

Products such as acrylic, MDF, wood-based sheets, Forex and aluminium composite are assessed according to the application. Provide the exact material type and product specification. Indoor decoration and outdoor applications should not be assumed to have the same material requirements. Assess outdoor suitability using product information and installation conditions. Cutting alone does not give a material a particular strength or make it suitable for installation. Knowing the intended use helps us prepare a quotation with the correct scope.

For clear or coloured parts, explore our acrylic cutting service; for mechanical cutting of PVC-containing sheets, see our Dekota and Forex page. Our aluminium and composite cutting service explains the material information required for layered products with a metallic appearance. If a sign uses several materials, use part codes to identify the material for each component. Include any important colour or surface orientation requirements with the file.

Cutting boundaries and small parts

Internal cut-outs are as important to lettering production as outer contours. The centre of a letter, a dot or a small logo element may be a separate component. Create a parts list to keep track of them. Show how elements should connect if they must remain joined. Specify support pieces or mounting templates separately. Letter appearance alone may not indicate which parts should be delivered together. Discuss the delivery arrangement in advance.

Fine lines, small gaps and narrow projections are checked at the target size. When reducing a logo, consider how its thinnest section changes. Mark any design details that are critical to you. Internal corner and edge requirements are assessed according to the cutting method. Any necessary design changes are discussed before production approval. The general ±0.1 mm target tolerance is confirmed for each job; it is not an unconditional promise covering every visual design element.

Production method and machine working area

Modoko CNC Kesim's Exitech router has a 200 × 400 cm working area, and the Mutlucam router has a 210 × 280 cm working area. For suitable materials, we also assess processing on a Xenon 200 W CO2 laser with a 140 × 100 cm working area. The method is selected according to material, geometry and delivery requirements. The full table dimensions are not automatically usable cutting dimensions for every part. Workholding, nesting and edge allowances are assessed from your file. Products containing PVC are not processed by laser.

If a sign is too large to produce or transport in one piece, we can discuss dividing it into sections. Agree joint locations and how the sections will be assembled with your design team. Show any surface engraving, fixing holes or grooves separately from the outer cutting contour. Our laser engraving and marking service explains requests for surface text and patterns. Define cutting, painting, lighting and installation as separate scopes. Specify which stage of the finished product you expect us to supply.

Fonts and file preparation

You can send AI, CDR, EPS, PDF, DXF or DWG files for assessment. Check whether the file contains only a photograph. Supply vector outlines together with a visual preview so that lettering can be checked for changes when opened on another computer. Before sending text, check spelling, punctuation and Turkish characters. If several versions of a logo share the same name, clearly identify the approved design. Checking the content and checking whether the cutting geometry can be manufactured are separate tasks.

Draw at actual size and state the units separately. Separate outer cutting lines from dimension notes, print elements and construction lines. Remove duplicate lines and obsolete design alternatives from the production files. Our DXF file preparation guide explains scale checks and line cleanup. State any file preparation or redrawing requirements in the quotation request. Converting a visual reference into production data requires different preparation from machining an existing drawing.

Installation layout and arrangement of sets

If letters are cut individually, also send the complete text layout. Letter spacing, line alignment and logo position must be maintained during installation. Explain any mounting template or marking requirements. For adhesive, screws, pins or other connections, provide the relevant dimensions and identify which team will handle them. A feature on the back of a letter can affect its front appearance, so name machining faces clearly. Confirm installation-site dimensions with your own team.

If several sets of the same sign are required, state the number of sets and provide the parts list for each. Check that all components, including dots and small marks, are counted. Give separate codes to elements with different colours or thicknesses. If packages must be separated by installation location, prepare the delivery list accordingly. Report every affected part code if the drawing changes during production. Keeping the approved file, production list and installers’ layout on the same revision makes tracking easier.

Pricing and delivery planning

Letter and sign cutting prices depend on material, thickness, number of different parts, detail, total number of sets and additional operations. Two texts with the same overall width may require different processing because of their letter shapes. Specify file editing, templates, surface treatments and special packaging in advance. Use our pricing page to check which operations a quotation includes. The final price is assessed from your own design; changes in material or dimensions must be discussed again.

For jobs requiring sample or first-part approval, define which appearance features and dimensions will be checked. If other teams will handle painting, lighting or installation after cutting, include these stages in your schedule. Our completed work gallery shows examples of logo and sign components. Collection from Dudullu, Istanbul, or shipping throughout Türkiye is arranged for each job. Send your design, material details and number of sets through the quotation form so we can clarify your project's production scope together.

Frequently asked questions

Is a screenshot of the logo enough?

It provides a visual reference. Suitable vector drawings and actual dimensions must be confirmed separately for production.

Can I request an installation template?

Specify any template or marking requirement with the overall layout drawing. Preparation scope is discussed separately.

Are lighting and painting included?

Cutting, painting, lighting and installation are separate tasks. Specify the condition in which you expect us to supply the product when requesting a quotation.
