Our main CNC machining service for MDF and melamine MDF
We machine cabinet carcasses, doors, shelves, decorative panels and custom furniture components to the actual dimensions in your drawing. Material type, panel thickness, toolpath and finishing requirements are reviewed before quotation.

Let's plan your MDF part around its intended use
MDF CNC cutting involves shaping sheets to a dimensioned drawing and, where required, machining patterns into the surface at different depths. At Modoko CNC Kesim, we assess files for cabinet doors, decorative panels, furniture components and custom parts. Cutting an outer contour requires different preparation from routing grooves or carving relief into a surface. When making an enquiry, tell us where the part will be used and which processes you expect to be completed before delivery so that we can define the quotation accurately.
Clearly describe the sheet's current condition when enquiring about raw, laminated, membrane-finished or painted MDF. A faced surface that will remain visible has different requirements from a raw part that will be painted later. If supplying your own material, provide actual sheet dimensions as well as thickness. Suitability is assessed alongside the file and machining scope. Read preparation guidance on our MDF material page, then contact us by attaching your drawing to the quotation form.
What should you specify for cabinet doors and panels?
Specify a cabinet door’s overall dimensions, inner frame, pattern depth and any edge profile together. When making the same design in different sizes, explain how the pattern should change: should frame width remain fixed, should the inner area expand, or should the whole pattern scale? Show these choices on the drawing. Include dimensioned handle positions, hinge holes and opening direction in the file rather than only describing them in a message. This creates a clear match between the drawing and parts list.
Check where repeating patterns meet on decorative panels. If lines must continue across adjacent panel edges, send an overall layout. Numbering parts makes the assembly sequence easier to follow. Keep installed panel dimensions separate from cutting dimensions and agree installation clearances with your own team. Define joints before production if a large surface must be divided into sections. Doorway and corridor dimensions along the delivery route may also affect the design.
Distinguishing through-cuts, grooves and three-dimensional surfaces
Outer contour cutting creates the part perimeter and any internal cut-outs. Grooves and pockets instead require machining selected areas to specified depths. Showing all these operations with the same line type can create uncertainty. Use separate layers for through-cuts, different depths and annotations. State whether a groove is shown by its centreline or actual width. Marking surfaces that must not be machined also helps with preparation.
A two-dimensional pattern image alone is not enough for three-dimensional surfaces such as relief carvings. We assess the model defining surface heights, target dimensions and material that must remain at the back together. Specify the highest and lowest points on the panel. Resizing a model can also alter the appearance of its details; increasing overall width and length alone does not necessarily preserve the same result. Our relief carving gallery shows geometric, botanical and wave-patterned surfaces completed at our workshop.
Dimensions, table area and target tolerance
For MDF work, we assess the working areas of our Exitech 200 × 400 cm and Mutlucam 210 × 280 cm CNC routers. These dimensions describe table capacity; do not assume the entire area is available for cutting every part. Workholding allowances, tool movement and part shape are included in planning. How the material will be held during machining is particularly important for designs with thin, narrow sections. Larger surfaces extending beyond the working area may require production in sections, which is discussed separately.
Critical dimensions and acceptance criteria are confirmed for each job before production.
Prepare your file for cutting
Prefer DXF or DWG for two-dimensional parts. State the units and include a known key dimension for verification. Remove overlapping lines, unnecessary annotation layers and obsolete design alternatives. Make clear which part each outer contour and internal opening belongs to. Separate different thicknesses into groups within the file. A photograph or reference PDF may help, but does not replace a dimensioned production drawing.
Use a list to match each part name with its quantity, thickness and face orientation where relevant. If left- and right-hand parts are mirror images, indicate this in the file names too. Update the revision date when changing a drawing and clearly state that the previous version must not be used. If dimensions change after you send the file, confirm that the new version can still be used for production. Changes made after production starts may require additional preparation or new material. Our contract CNC cutting process explains this information flow in more detail.
Let’s review the price and material waste together
MDF CNC cutting prices are not calculated solely from the part's area in square metres. Cutting length, the number of fine details, operations at different depths and surface machining time all matter. A plain rectangle and an intricately patterned panel of the same size need not cost the same. The number of different designs, tool changes and quantities of repeated parts are also considered. We therefore prepare quotations from your file and required operations rather than a fixed price list; work outside that scope is discussed separately.
Sheet layouts need clearance for the cutting tool between parts and workholding allowances at the edges. A specified visible face or pattern direction may restrict nesting options. Identify damaged areas in customer-supplied sheets in advance. Include any request to return leftover material or sort parts by job code. Our pricing page lists the points needed to compare quotations on the same basis. Let's clarify how preparation, material, cutting, packaging and transport costs are handled.
From production to delivery
After reviewing the file, we clarify missing dimensions, material details and the machining scope. Any sample process we recommend or you request is planned separately. Production uses the approved model; delivery arrangements depend on part size and fragility. Clearly state the preparation condition in which MDF surfaces should be supplied for painting or coating. Do not assume that sanding, painting and assembly are automatically included in cutting. Have the expected level of finishing recorded in the quote.
Delivery and dispatch terms are confirmed for each job.cabinet door machining examples lets you choose an image that illustrates your requirements, from the CNC router cutting page explains the general approach. For a firm quotation, send your file, material thickness, quantities and target date; we can clarify any uncertain details together.
Frequently asked questions
Can I supply my own MDF sheet?
Provide the sheet type, thickness and actual dimensions in advance. Suitability and the scope of processing are assessed together.
Is a photo enough to specify a cabinet door pattern?
A photo provides a visual reference. Production also requires overall dimensions, pattern width, depth and assembly details.
Does the cutting service include painting and assembly?
These operations are not automatically included. Specify the required delivery condition separately in your quote request.
